The 2026 BMW iX3 (codenamed NA5) is a landmark vehicle for BMW, serving as the debut model for the “Neue Klasse” (New Class) era. Unlike the previous iX3, which was a conversion of a petrol car, this is a dedicated electric vehicle built from the ground up on an 800-volt architecture.

For the Qatar market, where range and cooling performance are paramount, the 2026 iX3 represents a significant leap forward in EV capability.

Performance & Powertrain

The launch model for the region is the iX3 50 xDrive, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.

  • Power Output: ~469 hp (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque.
  • Acceleration: 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
  • Battery: A massive 108.7 kWh usable capacity using new Gen6 cylindrical cells.
  • Charging: The 800V system supports up to 400 kW DC fast charging. You can add 350 km of range in just 10 minutes at a high-power station. A 10–80% charge takes approximately 21 minutes.

Range & Efficiency

The iX3’s range is its headline feature, though real-world figures will differ from laboratory tests:

  • WLTP Range: Up to 805 km (approx. 500 miles).
  • Real-World Expectation: In Qatar’s summer conditions (with heavy A/C use), a realistic range of 550–600 km is expected, which is still class-leading and more than enough for multiple trips between Doha and Al Khor or Dukhan without charging.

Interior & Tech: A Digital Revolution

The cabin moves away from the traditional BMW layout to a minimalist, high-tech “lounge” feel.

  • Panoramic Vision: Instead of a traditional dashboard, key data is projected across the entire width of the lower windscreen.
  • Central Display: A unique, parallelogram-shaped 17.9-inch touchscreen running BMW Operating System X.
  • Practicality: It features a 520-litre boot and, for the first time, a 58-litre “frunk” (front trunk) specifically designed to store charging cables.
  • Cooling: BMW has optimized the thermal management for the Neue Klasse to handle high-temperature environments, which is a vital upgrade for the Middle East.

Design Language

The 2026 iX3 moves away from the “large vertical nostrils” of recent years.

  • Front End: Features a horizontal, illuminated “Iconic Glow” kidney grille that integrates the headlights into a single glass panel.
  • Aerodynamics: A sleek drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd helps maximize highway range.
  • Materials: Extensive use of recycled plastics (from fishing nets) and vegan leathers, aimed at “circular” sustainability.

Dimensions & Capacity

The iX3 is physically larger than the current petrol X3 to accommodate its flat-floor EV architecture.
