    • McLaren Automotive reveals Project Chromology by MSO – a bespoke expression of the McLaren 750S created in collaboration with British abstract artist Nat Bowen.
    • Debuting during Miami Art Week, the collaboration introduces MSO’s new Chromatic Layered Finish – a multi-layered paint technique influenced by the depth, translucency and emotional qualities of Bowen’s resin artworks.
    • Each unique commission will feature a unique MSO palette with its own defined emotional profile, demonstrating how bespoke design can serve as a powerful form of personal expression.

McLaren Automotive has revealed Project Chromology by MSO, a bespoke expression of the McLaren 750S created in close collaboration with British abstract artist Nat Bowen. Known for her vibrant resin-based artworks and the study of chromology – the psychology of colour – Bowen’s practice forms the creative foundation of the project.

Working alongside Bowen, the bespoke arm of McLaren, McLaren Special Operations (MSO), developed an innovative layered paint technique and applied it across the surfaces of the 750S. The method translates the signature characteristics of her practice – layered depth, translucency and the emotional resonance – into a refined automotive finish, brought to life through MSO’s technical precision.

Across the sculpted surfaces of the 750S, Bowen’s chromatic principles are reimagined through MSO’s bespoke capabilities – showcasing how artistic expression can be brought into motion and expanding what is possible within MSO personalisation.

At the heart of Project Chromology is MSO’s belief that bespoke design can be a powerful tool for personal expression. Each palette is constructed through a controlled layering process that produces a defined emotional profile, expressing individuality through both visual character and material execution of the 750S.

Developed for this collaboration, the new MSO Chromatic Layered Finish builds colour through multiple translucent coats, allowing light to reveal shifting depth and tonal movement. The finish introduces a subtle, raised texture within the paint surface – a first for MSO – creating a tactile dimensionality that can be both seen and felt, echoing the physicality of Bowen’s resin artworks and bringing a new material characteristic to MSO’s paintwork.

Each Project Chromology 750S will be built for a select group of MSO clients, featuring a unique MSO palette inspired by Bowen’s chromatic themes. Her exploration of how colour shapes mood and identity is reinterpreted into vibrant, light-reactive finishes. From calm and contemplative tones to bold and energising.

In addition, MSO has developed and introduced 24-carat, hallmarked gold-plated badging for the first time, exclusively for this project. Positioned on the front, sides and rear, each badge features a backing colour precisely matched to the central tone of its corresponding palette, ensuring the colour story is carried through every detail.

Every commission is accompanied by an original artwork created by Bowen, offering owners a physical interpretation of their palette beyond the car.

Making its global debut during Miami Art Week, the collaboration is unveiled at one of the world’s leading celebrations of contemporary art – a fitting setting for a collaboration that unites colour psychology, design innovation and McLaren’s bespoke craftsmanship.

With Project Chromology, we’ve translated an artist’s process into a new surface language for McLaren. The Chromatic Layered Finish brings a new level of depth, tactility and material complexity to our paintwork, and shows how far we can push colour and texture as a design tool. It reflects the core of what MSO stands for – expanding what’s possible in bespoke craftsmanship and helping clients express identity through the form and finish of their McLaren.

Jonathan Simms, Director of McLaren Special Operations (MSO)

Colour is emotion – it’s how we express who we are and how we connect with the world around us.  Collaborating with McLaren has allowed that exploration to move beyond the canvas – transforming colour psychology into a living experience. Together, we’ve created something that fuses art, psychology, and performance in a way that feels both personal and powerful.
